  1. Sarah--Your handwriting is very nice, and thank you for teaching me those things about Bali. As you study more about Bali, be sure to look at the pictures of the women and girls. From a very early age, girls are taught to carry even very heavy things on their heads. They stand very, very straight and move very gracefully and never, ever seem to drop or spill anything. When they are grown up, they can carry huge platters of fruit stacked very, very high to the temple for offerings. I saw little girls starting out carrying dishpans full of gravel for construction projects. I think it must take lots of practice.

Keep up the great posting. much love, bippy

  2. Hi Sarah,
At the temples, they will rent you a sarong if you don't have one. I like to wear the rented ones because it makes me feel like I'm part of their culture. Speaking of that- they always speak Bahasa to me when I'm in Bali because I guess I look like one of them. I'm happy that they think I'm Balinese because I find them to be very beautiful. They speak English very well on Bali. They speak it with an Australian accent, can you guess why?
To add to what Bippy said about how people carry things on their head, it is so true. I went diving and was amazed that these old ladies were carrying 2 SCUBA tanks on their heads! I could hardly carry one- they are very heavy!
