We went to the Royal Market in Bursa yesterday morning. It use to be the market place for royal people to shop at. It was built by Beyazit II in 1491. Kayley and I saw a picture of the Queen of England shopping in the market on a wall in the walkway of the market. Today, I saw a lot of local Turkish men, women, and little children shopping for clothing, jewelry, and having lunch.
It has been in use since it was built in 1491. It’s still in use today. We shopped and had lunch there. The raviolis (Manti) at the café in the café courtyard we ate at were really yummy. Zander and I bought Mommy a heart shaped "Evil Eye" pendant made out of glass for 1 Turkish Lira. She wanted to wear as a necklace because it is suppose to protect you from harm. Kayley bought the funny sweatshirt.
The market was a center for silk and other textile trade. I saw rows of silk scarves and other clothing at the market. One row was full of jewelry shops and a courtyard just had tea shops and another had cafes. It was awesome because people didn't chase you down and hound you for business, so shopping was easier than India or even Istanbul. It has been in use since it was built in 1491. Sarah--nice description of the nice time you had at the market. I'm glad Turkey worked out so well for you all. And I love the picture that you have here of Kayley's sweatshirt. That says it ALL!!!! Hope she wears it when she gts back home to the US. We need that message.
