Night as Sentosa by Zander

When we were in Singapore, we went to an Island off the coast.  It is called Sentosa.  It is a real tourist trap.  We had to take a subway to get to the harbor front and then walk along the boardwalk to the Island. We had to pay 1 Singaporean Dollar per person to get onto the Island.   There were lots of shops and a Casino, restaurants, and hotels on the island.  There was also a Universal Studios.  One of the reasons that we went was because we wanted to see the crane dance.

On the Island of Sentosa there is a really big Merlion. It is over 10 stories tall. And you can see it from a few miles away. A Merlion is a mix of a lion and a fish, It looks really weird, and it  is the sine of Singapore. There are a few statues of it, but the biggest that I have seen was the one on the Island. We walked around the garden a lot, because my mom wanted to look at plants. Then we walked through the mall to find a good place to eat dinner.

We were trying to find the cheapest place to eat. But we didn’t want to leave the island; I thought that since we are on an island, we wouldn’t find anything with the prices we were hoping. But we found a restaurant that served Thai food. I had Soup, and then finished off other peoples dishes. It was really good. I have noticed that In Singapore, it is cheaper to eat out then to make your own food.  I think that that is kind of backwards because when you make your own food, you have to clean up after it. But when you go out, you don’t have to do anything but eat and pay. So, I was happy that we ate out because we didn’t have to clean up.

After dinner, we went to the harbor front to watch the dancing cranes proformince. The cranes performance is two metal Crains that dance around. They have big screens on their next and they are about 99% hydraulics, so they dance around while playing a video on their necks and spraying water out our there sides, like wings. They told a story of two Crain’s falling in love and flying away. At the end, they shot fireworks from behind them. It was pretty cool. At the end, my dad said that he thought that it was not the newest technology because they were a bit clunky, and that it wasn’t as cool as the light show at Marina Bay.  I thought that it was and that it was worth the stay.

Our time in Sentosa Island was pretty cool.  We got to see a cool performance of dancing electronic cranes and eat some really good dinner.  Singapore is a really cool city with lots of interesting things, and really tall buildings. We got to see the biggest Merlion that I have ever seen, and a really big mall. My favorite part of the trip was the fireworks at the end of the crane dance, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again.

  1. Z-I'm with you! Those cranes look pretty amazing--not clunky. Soak up all those bright lights and modernity! In the direction your going, it doesn't get any better for lots and lots of miles. However, the food should be very good along the way and there will be lots of new, interesting stuff to see. Just not well lit or modern.

Here's a little more history of Singapore from Wikipedia's timeline. much love, bippy
