Christmas in Bali by Kayley

Christmas this year was sort of disappointing, because I built my hopes up really high. I hoped that we’d get more presents because everything is so cheap in Bali.   I always build my hopes up for everything, and I always get disappointed.  But this was one of the most disappointing Christmases we’ve had in a while.

It was disappointing because I had hoped that mommy and daddy would have a big surprise and they didn’t.  Instead, I got a really colorful dress that I picked out for Christmas from the market on the way to a temple. In the “stockings”, we all got a box of Tim Tam biscuits, a mango and some tiny oranges.  Also I got 11 dollars on iTunes.  That was kind of cool! In all Zander, Mia, Sarah and I had 50 dollars’ worth of iTunes.  Zander spent his money on apps and Mia and I spent our money on songs.  Sarah still hasn’t spent most of her iTunes money. Also, we all got a fried Balinese snack.  Mine tasted like very crunchy sweet potatoes. On Christmas day, we opened our presents and went to the Ombak café next door for dinner.  That’s about all we did all day.

It would have been better if we had gotten more money on iTunes and if I had gotten a sarong.  Also, I wish I had gotten a different colored dress because the yellow on the dress looks hideous with my skin.  And it would be better if we had gotten more yummy stuff in our stockings.  It would be an awesome Christmas if we had gotten more presents. But sadly, my bags are full and Bippy and gramps gave all of us lots of money that I don’t want to spend in Bali because daddy makes us negotiate and that’s hard work.

  1. Kaley-I'm sorry you were disappointed with your Christmas--although it sure sounds like you had a good day to me!! And you all look terrific in your new sarongs and dresses. Even your Dad has gotten with the new styles, and your dress has some great colors--including the yellow.

I don't like to negotiate either!! When it's the way to go in a place, like you, I usually just don't buy anything. Burma had a lot of negotiating and I hardly bought anything!

Have a great New Year, my love. bippy
