How slowly things get built in Bali by Zander

Bali is a developing country, so there is a lot of construction going on. But it is really slow. They don’t do there construction very efficiently. For instance, they don’t have heavy machinery, so there projects take way longer then they should. In the US, they industrialize everything and it will take  a few hours to do what the Balinese take a week to do by hand. They dig trenches by hand and mix concrete by hand. They do everything really slow.  They could develop way faster, if they used better equipment.  They don’t have dump trucks, so they empty the dirt from trucks by hand.  Why don't they  just get dump trucks? My mom says that it is the process, but I think that it is just plain stupid that they do things so slowly. If Bali industrialized, they would be building there houses and shops much faster and save a lot of time, money, and labor.

  1. Hi Zander,
Ask your Dad about the economics of why construction projects in Bali do not use mechanical equipment the way they do in the United States. Ask him what wages are in Bali and what effect that has. Also ask about availability of capital (money) to buy construction equipment. I think you will get an understanding of why construction practices are so different in the two countries.

  2. And also think of what all that nice equipment might do to the availability of jobs for people! It's interesting how many causes and effects using fancy machinery to make things [cars, roads, etc.] has. And your Dad is just the person to talk to about them. He studied all about the interactions when he was in college. And then he lived with them when he did construction.

Hope you had a good Christmas, Zander. And that your New Year will be a very, very good one. love, bippy
