We went to Cairns to see the Great Barrier Reef. I was really excited to go to it because it was one of the wonders of the world. It has lots of fish and coral. The reef is the biggest in the world. We went to Fitzroy Island to see the Reef. I learned a lot and found out a lot about how corral grows. It was really amazing to see all the fish and corral up close.
There was a 20 minute lecture that I learned a lot about corral. For instance I learned that corral only grows in water that is shallow, warm, and is exposed to lots of sun light. The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest in the world because it has all the components, and it covers the largest area in the World. There are 2 major different types of corral, hard and soft. They can’t be eaten by many fishes. All the little fish eat the sea weed that corral poop and then bigger fish eat them and so on and so forth. It is pretty amazing that so much life can live off so little food.
I learned a lot about the Great Barrier Reef from the 20 minute lecture on corral. I really wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef and now after that lecture I can appreciate it even more. It is so amazing that one thing can start a whole ecosystem in the right conditions, and that it can get so big. After learning so much and being able to see one of the Greatest things in the world I really appreciate nature and what it can do.
Z--glad the reef is still awesome! I had no idea how much the reefs of the world have already changed. Fiji had much, much less to see, but then I am not sure it was such a great reef to begin with. Glad the lecturer kept your interest, because there is a lot to learn about them.
